3.3Harvey Inkpen Bailey
The second eldest son of Francis Andrew Bailey, Harvey Inkpen Bailey, also served in the Second Boer War. Harvey was working as a clerk with the Western Australia Government Railways (WAGR) when he resigned to join the Army.

Harvey joined the 5th Contingent of the Australian forces to fight in South Africa. A local W.A. newspaper gave details of the camp at Karrakatta before embarkation for South Africa on the transport Devon on 6th March 1901. [15a]

The Western Australian 5th Mounted Infantry Contingents saw action in the column of Major General F W Kitchener, who long worked in the Lydenburg district, and generally over the Eastern Transvaal.
After their service in South Africa both the 5th and 6th contingents returned to Australia. On 7th April 1902, they departed Durban on the “Columbian” and arrived in Fremantle W.A. on the 29th.
A few years after his return from South Africa, Harvey married Nina May Inkpen on 21st March 1906. They had seven children: Jean (1907 – 1999), Keith Francis Inkpen (1908 – 1925), Muriel Myra (1910 – 2000), George Ivan (1914 – 1981), Sybil Ina (1915 – 2000), Norman (1920 – 1920) and Lawrence Harvey (1921 – 2001).
